In
present times all the Smartphone devices maker corporations offer its user to Wi-Fi connectivity
service. Wi-Fi phones are basically
used to connect your phones to the internet at the place within the range of
hotspots. Wi-Fi let the phones connect to the internet with the
nearest hotspot, even if over the air connection is out of range. When
user switch on the Wi-Fi on phone all the closest hotspot are show on the
screen of your phone.
You
can select anyone of them according to your choice. Once you connect your
device with wireless connection they you are ready to browse all your emails,
pictures, professional files, business information, bank accounts etc. When
people use Wi-Fi on their phones they think it just as a wireless internet
connection, for the use of which they have to pay nothing. They just have to
find the hotspot and they are ready to access the internet wirelessly. But no
one have idea about working of Wi-Fi on their phones. One reason of developing
these phones was that user can use VoIP
(Voice over Internet Protocol) service from their phones. They don’t have to
stick to their computer systems for making the long distance calls. With VoIP
users can make free long distance calls.
Structure of
early Wi-Fi phone:
Before
knowing about the working of Wi-Fi on a phone, we must know that how early Wi-Fi phone was structured. Like a
basic cell phone, a Wi-Fi phone has a
PCB (printed circuit board). PCB is connected with a processor, a speaker, a
microphone, keypad with function keys, battery, LCD (liquid crystal display)
screen, an antenna and memory.
Working of Wi-Fi
phones:
Wi-Fi phones and cell phones
both use radio waves to send and receive the radio signals, but the different
is that they both use different rate of frequencies. A Wi-Fi system use
to transmit the data in either 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz. This higher frequency allows
the Wi-Fi system to transmit a significantly higher amount of data. The data
for Wi-Fi uses the 802.11 networking standard in 4 distinct types.
- A is standard and can transmit data at 5GHz and can move 54 megabits per sec.
- B is slower than A and transmit 2.4GHz and can move 11 megabits per sec.
- G is similar to A because if use OFDM, but operates at 2.4GHz and can move 54 megabits per sec.
- The last one is N which gives highest speed among all and with that best range as well. It can move 140 megabits per sec.
When
you make a call from your cell phone or Wi-Fi
phone then you just dial the number of the person to whom you want to talk.
But if you want to use VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) to make call to
other user then you cannot connect through your cell phone. For using VoIP you
need a Wi-Fi phone and to make this
call you enter the VoIP address of user instead of number. Your Wi-Fi phone
translates that address into packets of data and then these packets are
transferred through wireless network from one end to another. Some other Wi-Fi phones use protocols instead of
specific network. They use SIP (session initiation protocol) which is an open
protocol. This is obviously a protocol with the help of which wireless
connectivity is possible as it is part of some Wi-Fi phones. SIP can handle
VoIP, video conferencing and other forms of communication.
Different
Wi-Fi phones are made to use Skype or
Vonage services etc. To use these services on your Wi-Fi phone user have to make an account with the provider of these
services.
